If you're looking for a serious take on vampires and vampire hunting, you're going to want to move along. However, if you're looking for some fun 80's-style camp, you're in the right place.
Bloody good fun
The Thirst is the third of the Lost Boys film (though I'll admit, I had no idea that there was a second film, The Tribe) and brings back original Lost Boys stars Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog and Jamison Newlander as Alan Frog. Corey Haim isn't in the film, per se, but he does make a few 'cameos' thanks to flashbacks via footage from the first film. There's also a visit to the grave of Haim's character.
The film starts out with the Frog Brothers killing a geriatric vampire who also happens to be a US Senator. The denture fangs are a nice, surreal touch. The successful rescue of the congressman that the senator is trying to make a snack of is tinged with tragedy.
The next we see Edgar, he's being served with eviction notice which he tries to stave off by selling his comics to his friend Zoe... All except his Batman #14, which fans of the first film will recall is the issue that Edgar and Alan first bantered with Corey Haim's character Sam about. He is also visited by Gwen Leiber who, it turns out, is a writer of vampire romances. Understandably, that makes her low on Edgar's list of favorite people as he feels she glamorizes vampires and makes people more susceptible to their predations.
It turns out that the vampires have hit upon a new way to lure in hapless humans. They're putting on raves and peddling vampire blood, calling it a drug that they refer to as The Thirst. Gwen comes to Edgar asking him to help rescue her brother Peter who was taken in by the vampire rave scene and whom Gwen is afraid will be the next victim. Add into the picture a reality show host who has watched too many episodes of the Crocodile Hunter and his cameraman and things get really interesting.
I won't spoil what comes next for you because it just wouldn't be fair! As stated previously, the movie is great fun. There's blood galore as one would expect from a vampire flick, and plenty of gratuitous nudity and banter between the principles. The plan to infiltrate a rave and rescue Peter is half-baked at best, and results in some unexpected consequences.
The end has an interesting twist which may or may not hint at future Lost Boys movies to come.
I recommend this for anyone who likes B monster movies. It would be a great addition to a fun night of sitting around drinking and eating pizza. You can even play a drinking game while watching this movie: Every time Edgar growls at someone, take a drink!
